February 04: The
log that we call PorchPix:
The Weather Outside Our Window gives a couch potato-like
version of the more active messing about that we like to do
in boats or boots.
I literally take pix for this log -- mostly in winter -- while
standing on the porch ... or sitting, warm and dry, or at least
slightly warmer and less wet, in the truck.
surprising how interesting this can be, until you muse on the
western New York reputation for crippling snows.
I have extended the Porch to the region, to find a home for
pix of trips that we take, especially with our paddle boats
but not nice
wind blew all day yesterday, at sustained speeds of 45 mph
with gusts to 70 mph ... .
freeze, yet to thaw
-- A few days ago, we had what I would call a silver
thaw -- water freezing on trees, shrubs, and
power lines ... .

Day play at Sodus Bay -- The
Reverend and I spent two days of Labor
Day weekend with friends at Sodus Bay on Lake Ontario. We
took the two Flats Rats and had a ball ...
August 04: High-speed
this and that -- We took a ride to Rochester
to see the new high-speed ferry. We saw the ferry, and a lot
of other high-speed stuff as well ...
June 04: Niagara
Gorge ... just gorgeous!!! -- It's one thing
to drive along the Niagara Gorge below the Falls; it's another
thing to walk from top to bottom on a warm, sunny day ...
draws line in the sky -- In Buffalo,
in winter, the line between sun and snow is sometimes
drawn in the sky, written large for all to see ...
December 03: Snow
flies; river work continues -- There's
a saying in these snowy parts that ends with the words
the snow flies." As in, "I
want to move to Florida before the snow flies."...
October 03: Wind
whips water with gusto --Buffalo and region
had wind gusts of 40 to 50 miles per hour today. I took some
pix at the big curve in the river at Strawberry Island, at
the foot of Ontario Street ...
February 03: Sunday-go-to-meetin'
I had on my Sunday-go-to-meetin' clothes and the landscape
was wearing its Sunday-go-to-meetin' snows, and some ice,

floes get with the flow -- While I was driving
by the Niagara River at the foot of Ontario Street, I stopped
to take pictures of the ice floes flowing down the river with
the sun causing dazzling sparkles

Red breaks the ice
the way to church today I noticed that there was still
a lot of ice floes from the break in the Ice Boom on Lake
Erie a few days ago. I stopped on the way back home and
was lucky to time my stop with the passage of a big, red

Bowl snow -- We got a good snow today
in Buffalo, where we live, and in Niagara Falls, where
I serve a Presbyterian church called Pierce Avenue

Ides of March
Macbeth was told to beware the Ides of March. For us,
the lookout was for spring, and March 15 was a giant step
